Yeah… hi.

Laziness & procrastination.

Those can sum up why you haven’t heard from me in weeks. I wish I could say that I’ll get better, but, for whatever reason, when I have a good idea, I don’t have the urge to put it to words. I have a list right here telling me what to type up, but I just don’t have “IT” right now to do so. With any luck, I’ll get some up here, but I can’t promise anything anymore. It’s not “goodbye” by any stretch, but it’s “I hope I have the time / energy / ideas to type up for you!”

I love my job, but it takes up a lot of my mental energy. Maybe that’s it :)

V-Day 2008

Someone (well, Brittany) commented on last year’s Valentine’s Day post, so I looked back at the past few that I wrote. I think it was the impetus needed to kick my ass into gear again. Anyway… apologies and explanations later, now it’s about the naked cherub with the wings and archery equipment.

So it’s Valentine’s Day again. It’s that day of the year that people spend a lot of money to prove their love, and restaurants weep tears of joy because they can finally unload all that stock they brought in. Don’t mistake my unyielding critical statements for not being happy; I am. I am very happy. As a matter of fact, this is the first Valentine’s Day that I’ve had a Valentine in quite some time! Not only that, but my Valentine this year rocks :-)

Do I still think this day is a load of bunk? Yes, yes I do. However, I still believe that people need this day. Much like Christmas forces us to re-evaluate ourselves and turn into the people we want to be, Valentine’s Day makes us act like the people that our partners want us to be. No matter how many women say “Oh, I don’t really like flowers,” they do. No matter how many men say, “It’s okay, honey. I didn’t want steak. Tofu is fine,” it’s a lie. Today (and tonight) is the time where we think of the person who puts up with us. Tonight (and today) is the time where we, even if we don’t say it year round, say “I love you” to that person and mean it. For some, this once a year is what keeps them going, but it’s only a day much like the Super Bowl is only a game. Sure, it’s THE day for love (like the Super Bowl is THE game for the season), but, ultimately, it is what it is.

I’m happy to be going out tonight with my girl. We will be eating and enjoying each other’s company. It’s like a little romantic vacation from reality!

To those of you who are boycotting V-Day, chins up (and I mean multiple people with multiple chins. I am NOT calling people who are alone today “fat”). It will happen to you, and you’ll eventually make heart-shaped foods for your loved ones on February 14th.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.
